Hi Chas

I came across your post about changing the command module in your S320, so I thought of asking you this question (not to mention that I couldn't figure out how to post a new thread )

Anyhow, the background is that I live in Dubai, and I just bought this car which was imported from US. Such imports have the following 2 well known problems:
1). The GPS doesn't work when you try it with a Gulf/GCC Spec DVD - apparently the US standards are different from what we follow in the Gulf (European?).

2). The FM radio's tuner skips only in odd numbers in the decimal position; while we have even numbers in decimal position in this part of the world. So, I can't tune to, say, 98.6 - 98.5 & 98.7 work...

The Benz guys here tell me that my only options are to either live with it, or replace the command module with a Euro/Gulf spec one. Furthermore, I was quoted a ridiculous GBP 5000 as the part's price.

I was wondering if you know something better. I guess better price for the parts, and what all do I require to make the conversion. Is there any way for you to confirm that the Gulf and Euro specs are the same? Any pointers would be deeply appreciated.

One last favour, please: Could you post this as a new thread for me?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

Regards,
DJ

Hi DJ

I would imagine it's a straight swap. Get one from EBAY new £600 or used for £250. Its a 30 minute job to replace. If I am correct, I will tell you how to do it with photos etc. How old is your car, is it COMAND 2.5 ,1998-2002 or later?

You will have to change the whole unit, the Satellite and the FM is not compatible.

As you say plenty on Ebay and his old one can be sold on Ebay as well, so the cost will be small, it should be plug and play
