Hi,

Has anyone notice their COMAND system switching itself off?

Was traveling to work this morning listening to the cd in the changer with the map display on when the system just shut down. The dash display still had CD track 11 on but the whole unit had gone off. pressed the ON switch and it came back on and stayed on. It had been playing around 5 minutes and continued playing for around 5 mintes after this event before I arrived at work.

Anyone else suffered this. It is the first time this has happened to me.

I wonder if it was because Meat Loaf was managing to ruin and already bad Bob Dylan song and the system gave up?

COMAND problem

I've had COMAND on a W203 for over four years now, during which time it has 'locked up' a few times and the display has vanished on one or two occasions.

On each occasion the problem has cleared after the engine has been switched off and re-started.

I would guess that the COMAND system is driven by its own internal microprocessor, so that switching the engine off and then on has the same effect as pressing the RESET button on a computer.

I've had the basic radio cassette (audio 10) in my E crash a couple of times. Once it spent 20 minutes trying to eject an non-existant cassette whilst I pulled the back seat out and looked for the fuse. Not surprised the command throws the odd dicky.

So there i was, dashing home in the snow this morning and peter kay was telling me a story of the people he saw on his holidays in t'eygpt when he stopped dead. radio worked, map working, dvd froze. no buttons would work. switch off/switch on, everything back to normal.

manually turned it off nearer home as road got very slippy. not sure how the SLK will cope in proper snow. it didnt like the icy roads this morning.
