My name is Carol and I am new to the Forum. I have joined in the hope to try and get some information/assistance with a few issues that I am having with my S Class.

In January it began loosing the radio stations in all areas not just on the motorway. When I took it into Mercedes Benz they said it was due to the black limo tint on the rear screeen. I disputed this as it had been working fine for the year prior to this.

Now I am having constant problems with the whole system. The cd changer now and then wont play and displays 'no readable data', the rear camera freezes on a black screen with just blue lines, the radio still is not functioning.

Each time something happens it does not store the message/error in the diagnostics so have to keep taking pictures of it to prove what has happened.

The ordered an amp in March 2016, which I am still waiting for and have been told that they are built specifically for each car and mine is currently in the process of being built.

They have had the car into the workshop each time something has gone wrong and never find a fault, in total 8 times. Yesterday they had it in for the day and said they were going to fit a new command unit. However, when I went to collect it at 5pm I was told that they were unable to fit it as they couldnt find any faults.

I am not at the end of my tether and dont know what to do next?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Many thanks

There have been a few reports of these units doing what yours is doing, they will replace it in the end, it is an expensive thing.

Warranty

Luckily it was still under warranty when it started but it ran out on 30/3/16. If the faults can be proved they will repair it under warranty but it isnt storing sny fault info.

The car will not store much about any event with the comand, it can store faults to do with the wake up and optical ring, but not other internal faults.

I think owing to the cost they are avoiding the issue, most get another unit from a breaker.

Does the garage have STAR

In which case there is little you can do about the situation until the unit fails but I would log all the visits to the workshop and failures. Intermittent faults are annoying for all involved and certainly detract from what should be a very good experience with your car.

COMAND units are very expensive to replace so you will have difficulty getting the dealer to change the unit without it failing. Under the circumstances I would certainly give COMAND Online a ring to discuss options, the unit could really do with removal and test for a few days

Quick update. Thank you all for your info but I am still trying to get it sorted. They have asked me to take pictures now of the screen and messages every time it happens but still not getting anywhere.

Definitely worth a trip to Alfie at Command Online, even if a long trip they may be able to help you and or your dealership understand and resolve the issue.

At least that is what I would do.
