Command Unit

I recently bought a 2003 320 CLK only 8k and in spotless condition. However, two problems have just occurred. The first is the Command unit screen which, for about 50% of the time, cannot be read and is a series of vertical lines. The second is when the driver seat backrest is pulled forward (for rear access) the seat is traversed forward by the seat motor - but when the seat backrest is pulled back the motor does not return the seat back to its original position.
Is anyone aware of simple solutions which I am missing?

command might be something simple like a loose connection either to the unit or internal ie data connection to the actual screen . Is it
1.temperature sensitive, ie does it work then go off, or does it not work then come on after a while.
2.Or happens after a bumpy road
3.Or totally intermittent?

You have a bad / dry joint on the timebase in the display section within the command.

Have you re tried storing the settings on the seats again

There are interconnect that could have a bad connection within the comand
