Hi guys

Just want to ask if anyone has had success in getting some financial assistance towards the cost of well known issues outside of warranty at all?

If you refer to the OM642 air intake I have never heard as such. Its a poor design, Plastic on a hot air inlet leads to brittle platic.
Compounded by the fact the MAFS are intergarted within makes it an expensive part.

There is a mod of silicon hose that attaches over with a connection for the PCV port.

Smart + others :)
Most common fault is one of the manifold bolts snaps and allows it to distort and blow. They also can burn thru with hot gasses. Do the fuel filter housing at the same time.

Not peeved at the price, its manageable but seems like MB could help a little with a goodwill gesture seeing as they care so much about customer satisfaction

I think you're missing the point, do you work for MB or something? I was just asking to see if people had the same issue or issues, that MB might have chipped in with repairs because they built it with plastic

good will - may and certainly should come from ....

oh we did that badly - lets offer the part at a sensible cost to customers rather than the full retail of what was once anticipated to be an very rare obscure part we expected to sit on a self, then age, then get scrapped and be replaced before we ever sold a single one, hence the original expectation of 980 included the costs to cover 10 years self space and 1 x aged scrappage..

after all the part supplier have damaged our reputation thus they are meeting half the parts cost and even then the said supplier is now making thousands of them which we can comfortably make crazy profit on by selling at 250 each, of which 100 is pure profit we never expected to be making and so we are now getting that x hundreds of thousands of sales....

note to self lets ensure suppliers make lots more faulty parts - nice revenue stream - remember to offset image loss paying lewis far too much - never realised customers are so gullable - may need to cover up the enivironmental damage it causes .... but probably not !!!!!!

As the car is 10 years old I doubt any brand would be willing to admit liability by forking out, it could set an expensive precedent. Cars age... parts fail, plastic or metal.

Why would plastic be inferior?
It's been used in inlet manifolds very successfully for many years and has the benefit of smoother flow characteristics than castings.

No I dont work for merc and I dont think I an missing the point.

You have a merc and by the sounds have it, have never paid merc any money for any service so how have you earned any goodwill. Goodwill has a meaning. If you are regular a customer, you build a relationship and you return. In return you get recognised for loyal custom and get appreciated, and you keep going back = goodwill.

If you are expecting something, without been a customer, then good luck!

If the parts are inferior as you say mercedes are rather good at clocking into this as when the car is new if they samee many complaints or parts needing repairing in short time, then ok not fit and MB make superceding parts.

A 10 year old part without known weak points beyind what is expected from wear and tear is not going to get far with "goodwill".

So no I am not missing nothing.
