My R230 used to mist the front screen when parked in damp autumn/winter weather too - even when the boot, interior, carpets, can bus channels and heater box were 100% guaranteed water free. I never found either a reason or a cure - eventually I concluded it was simply damp outside air condensing - although why the inside of the windscreen was colder than the outside air I never did figure out.

There is also one other source of moisture into the boot that hasn't been mentioned - if the boot lid mounted stop lamp lens has cracked, the lamp housing to boot lid seal will be compromised, and will let water into the boot. When mine did this, there was no visible free water anywhere in the boot, but there was a damp patch on the felt lid lining and traces of condensation here and there.

Ok, just opened the boot again and the top where the flaps are is very condensed?! a lot of moisture around there. If I clean it will it go away?

On the assumption you are driving it some, then the heat from the exhausts will help some of that moisture vaporise, only to condense again when the metal panels cool down. The fact that there are so many gaps between the cabin area and the boot allows moisture laden air to move about, so when you park up, the moisture will condense on the coldest parts, particularly the glass & windscreen.

When you lifted the spare wheel, you should also lift out the polystyrene tray that holds the jack etc - it's under there that you will find any liquid.

Keep mopping up the condensation - also remember to half open the roof & dry off where the paddles live normally when they have unfolded.

I used to keep a few of these http://www.vileda.co.uk/uk/products/show/1012?hotspot_id=1463 strewn about the boot - best to soak & dry out on a radiator again before doing this as they go hard when dry, so when you open the boot & they have gone damp & floppy, just dry them out again

You can buy little boxes with granules in at the pound shop (do not laugh) they do work very well and placed below seat and one in boot I bet within few weeks you will have gathered loads of water. Super little items .

I have a couple of the moisture collecting bags in my car, one in the boot and one in the cabin, really good ! Dry them out on a house radiator for 24hours and re-use

As for the dry carpets - well mine seemed all nice and dry on the top, but when I lifted them there was so much water ! Took weeks to dry out using towels and newspaper oh and lots of driving about with the heater on full blast, but now that I have done the boot seal and cleared the heater box drain all is well, but I check it every week just in case:)

I lifted my carpets and it is dry assuming you are talking about the ones at the top and not the lining of the footwell.

I lifted out the passenger footwell carpet, under the carpet is about 2 inches of foam that loves to absorb water ! Really good idea Mercedes to put a load of electronics under the carpet !

Remove the passenger kick panel just 1 screw with plastic cap over it and pull the draught excluder off and it come out. pull the inner sill upwards and its off, you can now lift the side of the carpet to check for water, it will not lift far for the seat is in the way.

Ok, this is getting strange. Throughout this morning, the car was fine but I just went outside and it had condensation again. I then turn on the air conditioning and the compartment just after the glove box on the passenger side was leaking water. Drops and drops. Checked the boot again and it still has condensation at the bottom by the flaps.

Help please.

Sounds like the air conditioning plenum drains are blocked.

Thanks for that. Would that also account for the condensation in the boot area?

Do you know how to unblock the ac drains?

Sounds like water trapped in the blower motor intake, did you clean out the n/s/f drain bung and throw away the restrictor on the bottom of it as per malc's post? easiest way to tell if its blocked is to lift the bonnet and look inside the n/s/f air intake grill if you can see water at the bottom of it the drain in the n/s/f wheel arch is blocked, as the level gets higher it normally makes the blower motor chirp and water floods in to the n/s/f footwell..

I have already told you about the evaporator heater box drain in post 3 and 8 and I put the diagram up in post 10

Remove n/s/f wheel, remove plastic arch liner, look at the chassis section you will see the bottom af a plastic bung normally with a trickle of water running down from it where the bung is blocked, stick your fingers up it and pull the bung out (throw it away and you'll never get a reoccurrence!) stand well back it will gush!!!!!!!! you also need to check your n/s/f floor pan canbus wiring if the water has got into the car your multiplugs will start to corrode!!

The drain pipe at the top are 40,,, you have still got to clear the bottom one quickly, the water will come into the car

Maybe he was getting some reassurance from another member? A second opinion perhaps

I think I know the 230 as well as anyone , I have told about all the drains with the diagrams
