I recently had the misfortune to break down with a dead battery so had little time to shop around for a replacement, its probably best that was the case as now, some 2 days leter I am totally confused on the correct battery type.

Its a 2002 CLK 320 Convertable Elegance.

According to Kwik-fit, the correct battery is a 75AH, since this I have looked around most of the internet retailers and they all list a 75AH as being the correct battery for my car.

The battery removed was by the looks of it the original as fitted by Mercedes, and it was a 100AH.

I did manage to get the fitter to agree that the 75ah looked a bit on the small side compared to what was coming out, and they said it was against their policy to fit the incorrect battery type, but finally fitted a 88AH which was about the nearest they had for a Mecedes car.

So guys, any idea why every web dealer quotes a 75AH as being the correct battery?

If the 100AH is the correct size, I hope mine being just 88ah wont be an issue.

for the record I had to do the following

Comand 2, no keycode (phew)
Windows needed resetting as they dropped 2 inches (up for 10 seconds, down for 10 seconds)
BAS / ABS warnings (full lock to lock)

Pleased the car is all fine again,, what makes it hard to know the size is the specification of the car, a car with air con will need a larger battery than one without, the same for heated seat etc

Always go with the larger battery would be my advice. On this occasion though, I don't see an issue with an 88amp/hr battery.

I think I have all available options, apart from parkasist, but I know how to use my mirrors :)

I agree that its dependant on the amount of electraical systems that will be supported, but there doesnt seem to be any options when buying a new battery to specify a slghtly higher spec than basic. Its a CLK320 and thats the only available option.
