So all the lamps are working normally and you get the message faulty lamp and another comes on at the same time

Yeah all the lamps are working fine ( or seem to be ) and it shows me 2 malfunctions, one is tail light (L) malfunction and the second malfunctions shows as substitute lamp on...although no other lamps are on ( just the 2 normal tail lamps and No plate lamps )

I am thinking now of a CAN fault,,and water or damp in one of the SAMs I think that an indie with Star will be the way to go

No thats fine Wireman is a very good guy on these things, something that is good is to go to Maplins and get some contact cleaner (non drying) and spray all of the lamp sockets and bulbs

As Malcolm says, if the conmtacts are oxidised then the lamps will look on but actually be dull and drawing too much current - hence putting on the warning light. MyE240 did it. Everything lodked ok but it kept warning - so I cleaned up one side and it was suddenly twice as bright as the other side. Did both and it was happy ever after.

This is same as my C220 error I brought up a couple of weeks ago.

All contacts and connectors scraped, cleaned, all bulbs replaced, but the message still comes on, so it must be the SAM, just a matter of locating it then allocating time to sort it out!

Doesn't the light cluster contain a spare bulb, which automatically kicks in when the main bulb goes. Hence the warning tail light (L) malfunction (ie the bilbs gone) and substitute lamp on. Put a new tail light bulb in an dboth warning lights go out. Well it did on mine :)
