convert cable gearbox to electronic speedo?

I have to change my gearbox , the box it has is a 722.320 with an electronic speedo. Having researched into which of these the unit was fitted to:
1986 300e
1987 300e
1988 300ce
1988 300te
None of these were fitted with electronic speedo.

Does anyone know if the unit is an add on (e.g. a simple change over)or is my gearbox from another model not listed?

also does anyone know what the 3 vacuum pipes on the gearbox operate?

If you put up the first 6 numbers of your VIN, I can tell you what it should be.

Thats the trouble, someone has changed the gearbox in its life( and engine I imagine) Mercededs said it should be a 722.4?? not a 722.320
bought a replacement 722.358 and the garage says they cant fit it because it has a cable speedo and 2 vacuum pipes instead of 3.........

does this shed any light on an answer, seems a shame to scrap it over what should be a simple solution.
