Convertible Roof Won’t Open

I have a Mercedes E class convertible 2011 E220. My convertible roof does not open. I get the sign on the dash saying in operation. If I lift the roof comes up. They are back opens up at JaR from r he roof to Retract that it it just stops. I have been told he could be some senses.

I had this on my wife's 2007 280CLK a number of years ago and it turned out to be the control unit in the driver's door which I replaced and all then was fine. I know you might think it's sensors or microswitches I thought the same thing but after looking into it found it was the main control box in the door as it controls the roof and drivers side window and you also have one in the passenger door but that was fine. Her roof would fold back and stop but not fully and when trying to close was not going all the way to the locked position. Anyway, I hope that might help.

I agree but in my case, there was no issue with leaks as that would be the clear problem. But on my wife's car, it was the control unit as rainwater over time had got in and done the unit in. I was very lucky I managed you get a brand new one for £45 as old stock but yes it's all about Mercedes saving on costs but not giving a dam about the customer and what's involved in solving the issues when they come about and then want to rip you off for high repair costs for cars that are supposed to be the best engineered in the world which I'd very much disagree on anyway. But I hope Mrrossi gets the problem sorted at the least cost and inconvenience to himself.

I remember watching videos of Mercedes factory testing body components to destruction on specially designed rigs in the 1980s we are a long way from that now. The main problems with engine design and reliability have ensued from Brussels timetable on emissions regulation especially EU6 (diesel) all the manufacturers have struggled to comply and consumers are/will be bearing the brunt of the cost.
