Converting E Class to Seven seater

I'm currently looking for a fairly recent E Class estate for my wife, to replace her much loved 1997 E320 Elegance. This has the optional extra pair of seats in the rear, and we will need this in the next car. Have found a great prospect locally, 2003 model 270cdi with huge spec and decent mileage, but it doesn't have those dang seats fitted - just a load pack. The local dealership tells me it would cost about £3500 (!!!) for them to do the conversion. Obviously this is non-starter...but does anyone know of, or better still, have experience of, an independant firm who can do this for a more realistic price...or indeed, another Merc dealer who would?

Or has anyone attempted to try it themselves?

I guess I'd probably be better off just looking for another car with the requisite option already fitted, but thought it wouldn't harm to ask...

Hi Walter and welcome to the forum.

I converted a 124 series estate to 7 seats using this company, that was in 1993, so they must be doing something right.

The conversion was as good as the factory set up with genuine materials etc. and seatbelts, not cheap but very good.

Mind you, I'm sure they will look a bargain against what you've been quoted by DC.

I got a quote from a company in London, was high and using non standard parts. So I then got a price from Tom Murphy, an MB main dealer an hour or so drive from Rosslare, easily reached from Pembroke or Fishguard and same day stuff. All MB parts, seat belts and leather seat in original matching leather, was less than half your quote. Labour cost is about €80 hour! Try them at + 353 51 301222 ask for Orla or Elaine. You will find them very helpful, they will give you a car for the day and there are some great golf courses not so far away if thats your pleasure.
