Hi all

Being new to MB ownership some advice is sort please. My coolant has been tested to -15 and the mechanic recommended changing it (certainly before winter).

Any particular anti-freeze I need to use? (MB's own or will local halford's one do?)

Is it an easy job - anything to watch out for? airlocks in system?

Many thanks

I would do it by removing the bottom hose, its easier from the rad.

It is said that MB antifreeze is the best and I would use that and I would flush it out too

If you are unsure of your cooling systems history put a dose of chemical flushing agent through it, follow the makers procedure.

If there is sludge in your engine, radiator or heater it will not wash out with any hose pipe not even a fire pump.

Change your coolant at 2 year intervals and use a 50% mixture.

It is the corrosion inhibitor component which is essential in modern engines, miss out this service and trouble may (eventualy will) come to visit with a very large bill.

You do not have to, but a good way when filling up is to fill up as far as you can then squeeze the bottom hose, and any bubbles will come up to the top

Any anti freeze with MB approval printed on the label will be ok - Halfords sell one. Once you've refilled, run the engine for a short while and then re-check the level - it will probably need topping up again.
