the car is a 1993 model,190e-1.8 .

last night while driving on the motorway at night, i noticed that coolant level light in the dash was on, but not fully, just partially.
by this i mean it appeared to be on but it was quite dim.

the coolant temperature was normal at just above 80c.

i checked the coolant in the expansion tank and the level was normal

does this point to a dirty coolant level sensor connectors?.

is there anyway of cleaning the coolant level sensor?

or does it need replacement?

any comments appreciated. :?:

My dashboard light is always on if its connected - so its not!

As I'm not loosing any coolant and as I have the ability to lift the bonnet to check the levels I'm not going to spend a second or a penny fixing the problem! :)

Mike.

ps I cleaned the connector but it did'nt work (obviously)

thanks for the advice.

i had a look at the sensor terminals and connectors-

the sensor terminals were rusty/dirty-cleaned them, then applied some wd 40.

the connectors were also dirty-so cleaned them, and wd 40 was applied.

the coolant level sensor light does not come on in the dim mode at night.

problem fixed!!

Sometimes bulb holders can fall out the back of the instrument panel or partitions between bulbs can get dislodged and result in the appearance of a dimmly illuminated waring symbol.
