Hi

returned from a 150 mile trip, non stop as per usual, doing the usual speed about 70 and under a 100 - cars got 24k showing and just over 2 years old - c180k auto - coolant low warning came twic and tep rose to 95 and rose to that near home in slow traffic as well - will check the levels tomorrow - taking car for 'A' service, and mentioned on another thread, which I will update.

Q: Is it normal to lose coolant/top up around 24k - the cars over the 30 yrs of drving and the more modern cars over the last 10 years, never needed to top up

Thanks:crazy: :(

then your losing coolant somewhere. could be a gasket or coolant bottle seal, could be a loose pipe connector or some such thing.

Loss of coolant is not normal and should be investigated. At best you have a leaking pipe or joint. At worst you have a head gasket failure. Check it out ASAP.
With some engines (Not MB to my knowledge) they have such small collant capacity that almost any leak will cause the engine to overheat and head to warp.

coolant loss

Another possibility worth checking is auto trans. The valeo radiators have a trans cooler built in and apparently can lose coolant into the transmission system. Check without delay as this can screw your tranny big time if not sorted

Have a look yourself first, then depending upon how low it is either call the dealership and book it in. Or call Mobillife and get them to take it in.

Hi

Becuase of the coolant problems experience yesterday - took the car to the local dealer.
A type service 234 quid - washer on gear box leaking - charge me 50p for seal, but i did not waste my time arguing - filled car screen wash with flid, charged 3 quid - i did not ask for it - they could not find anyhting wrong with radoator/coolant - will look at levels tomorrow.

The price of the service varies from minute to minute and dealer to dealer in my experience.
:(

Don't think they used mobile 1 but the other Mobil at around 11 quid plus vat a litre.
