I have been offered a c180 but the coolant light is always on.The seller stated it was a faulty sensor.
What should I look for to eliminate anything more sinister before I commit to buying....????
Also how many miles should i expect to get from a 1.8 manual?
Cheers John

What year C180?. Re.the coolant light ,check the level visually,if it's ok it may be a faulty sensor as you have been told.
[Also how many miles should i expect to get from a 1.8 manual?] This depends on how well it has been looked after, but if it has been serviced regularly there is no reason why it should not see 150k miles at least without problems.

If its a 202, the coolant and screen wash sensers are linked by one wire which goes to the instrument cluster. The cluster decides whether coolant or washer is low by the different resistor readings of the two sensers. Could be faulty coolant senser, washer bottle senser, trapped/shorted wire or the instrument cluster itself.
