Do you guys renew the coolant (anti-freeze/water) every 2 or 3 years as stated in manual/service with its inherent messing around with bleeding, etc
or
do you just check density and if OK then don't renew.

I guess my question is ..."why do you have to renew ?"..I think I read somewhere that rust inhibitors in the anti-freeze can deteriorate over time ...is this rubbish or is this the reason ?

Please help trhe ignorant

Thanks.

What I am aware of is that engine coolant deteriorates due to heat and chemical changes over time. Eventually some of the products in coolant can turn a little acidic so yes, it does deteriorate.
If you continue to use deteriorated engine coolant, it can lead to engine overheating, and damage to engine cooling components.

I tend to follow the recommendations in the service schedule. When draining the system I don't get too up in the air over trying to extract every last drop. As long as the bulk of it has been changed I'm cool (pun intended) with that.

Bugger.... that's just reminded me to swap out the coolant on the bike!
