Coolant smell when...

I detect a faint coolant smell when the cars temp is a bit high and the fan kicks but this happens only when the heater is on as well. Hm what could this be...

There are some super liquid sealer used by the trade today, so much better the the older type that could block the Matrix, these will also cure head gaskit problems.

Dont forget that our heater air intakes are at windscreen level, if you have the correct wndscreen agent added ,it does smell like Anti freeze.

Well I did change my radiator recently and before that I used the K-.... rad seal in my coolant. If it were the matrix should it not be fixed by that application?

What other symptoms are there of a faulty matrix

You will lose coolant.

If it is this I'd get it sorted ASAP as you don't want water leaking out all over you dash = rotten carpets and knacked electrics.

This can occur for many reasons, the heater matrix is only one , is the carpet wet, yes or no, it no then its not the heater matrix.
