Had a "Coolant - Visit Workshop" flashed on the screen a few times during a short drive, after another short drive to return home, looked at the cooling fan and it wasn't moving.

Ignition off, let it cool a little bit, tried to turn the fan - wouldn't move. Tried a bit harder, heard sort of click / clunk - non-metallic - more like a a dried piece of soil breaking off ... Fan now moves freely and no more coolant warnings.

As the car is approaching 15 yrs, I'm sure the best course of action is to replace the cooling fan, however as with everything in this little thing, the labour will probably be more, than the part, which by itself is not dirt cheap either. So this might have to wait.

Is there a lubricant I can use, like GT85 or Silicone Release spray in the meantime?

A little spray of GT85 won't do any harm at all

if it’s working don’t replace it. Maybe there was some crud blocking it up.

I assume this is the electric fan as a thermo viscus would still cool when seized.

Keep an eye on it.
Check it can rotate with the engine off, when hot and cold to see if there's difference.
When hot smell for burning.

I can understand why you might over heat some, but the coolant thing, have you lost some, is it low in the header tank?

Thanks chaps!

I'll have a closer look tomorrow, and give it a little spray of GT85.

I did check it with engine running and it looked okay - spinning without any noticeable hindrance or noise.
I can also rotate it easily, as in flip and it's spinning, when cold.
Did some sniffing around o_O when the engine was still running at normal operating temp - nothing.

Printed all WIS pages I could find, will check the coolant level tomorrow, run full scan on iCarsoft MB V2, and get the cam under the control module to check the wires.

Thanks again, appreciate your help :)
