the cooling fan motor on my W215 CL500 has started to make a loud noise when running. Is there a repair kit (ie brushes) available, or will I have to change motors?

they are normally sealed units I think, and I was under the impression that they were induction motors and not with brushes.
What kind of noise is it making.

if its anything like the air blower motor i had on my merc 190d, then the loud noise is the sound of impending doom. mine sounded like a helicopter for some days before finally going dead. removal of it revealed that the brushs had dismembered themselves complete with wiring and got stuck in the actual fans which of course ended up in catastrophe

mine was beyond repair so i had to fit a new one from the merc dealer, fitting it was not the most difficult job in the world but involved removing the wiper assembly just to get at it,

i have no idea if your model car is similar in construction,

lastly, you could be lucky and its just 'leaves' or some debris down there rubbing against a fan, try turning the fan on/off and up to full power a few times to dislodge

cheers

Thanks for the info. It sounds more as though the motor bearings have gone. As you would expect, it only comes as a complete unit with motor, fan, etc...at £350 +VAT!

You do have a choice, If the only alternative is a new one, why not take it down and see if you can replace the bearings, all bearings are standard sizes and come in 3 grades. What do you have to lose, any help wanted just ask

I too have a CL500 with 60K, 2000 model. It is making the same whirring noise from the fan. How does one go about changing the bearings? I am technically inept by the way. Or are there any reconditioned part specialists out there that anyone recommends. thanks.
