The 220026 is shown with an engine fan.

What are your next 3 numbers after 220

OK, thank you both. I'll check with a couple of dealers tomorrow and see what prices come back. As I found before when I bought my battery, even MB dealers can vary wildly in price for the same part (£160 from my local one - £110 from the one by work). Any additional info you do find is greatly appreciated Malcolm.

Cheers,
Bill

The fan comes on its own, no box and no shroud

A220 500 01 93 for the 600w version

A220 500 02 93 for the 850w version, this is for code 550

The wires can be disconnected from the control box in order to test,, it will only be the brushes probably

Thanks Malcolm - I'll check the prices on those tomorrow. I'm guessing the brushes are not replacble?

I think that someone took one to bits and replaced them a few weeks ago, if it is not working you have nothing to loose, I can give you the info on removing it, nothing much to it

OK, just for information really. Apparently (according to Merc and others, they only do the 0193 now and it's listed as a replacement for 0293. These are self contained units with the fan, motor, casing and the control unit. Item 80 in this:

http://www.detali.ru/cat/oem_mb2.as...GA=722.626&CT=F&cat=66T&SID=50&SGR=015&SGN=01

Price from MB was £525 + vat, however after shoping around I got one from KMS Parts in B'ham for £360 + VAT. Still seems a lot of money for what it is, but at least I got it sorted. It's going in to the garage on Tuesday to be fitted. Could have done it myself excepting that one of the oil cooler pipes from the transmission is screwed to a mounting on the bottom of the shroud, and is impossible to get to without either getting the car up on ramps or jacking it up to remove the engine tray, neither of which is practicale where I live, and it's only £40 for the garage to do it.

I'm going to keep the old one to have a go over and see if I can find the fault. If I can fix it, at least I've got a spare then :-$

Thanks (especially to Malcolm and S-A-M) for all the advice
Bill

P.S. Out of interest, I'm intrigued by the 850w rating on my fan - I presume this must be some sort of heat dissapation value? I can't think it 's the motor power. 850w at 12 volts is 70 Amps odd, and there's no way the power cables to the unit are capable of carrying that much current, plus the biggest fuse in the circuit for it is only 20 amps, and from what I can work out, this is supplying more that just the fan.

I have suffered the same problem. My fan is the one which is belt driven. I checked all the fuses and all seem fine, even checked cable continuity and these are good too. If I run the car its fine to start, the fan turns on at around 95 degrees which is far to what it used to be. The fan runs at one speed, slow! It never ever turns in fast mode as it use to. The car temp just keeps creeping and if stationary in traffic the temp just keeps climbing, and I end up switching the car off and resting it for a while. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks

I would have said that a sensor has failed (Thermal switch) they are operated by both temp an pressure within the system.

This is a matter of running the car up to temp and measuring each sensor to make sure that it is closing at the correct temp.

If they are all good then probably the fan box failed

Television,

I need some advice on the same problem with my s280 W220 year 2000, I dont know how to post a new thread on this site. I noticed you did not want to be asked directly but via threads but I just post one.

I have the same problem as the guy in Wycombe. I have used a continuity tester and I have tested the circuit and the fan works, but only at one speed. I dont know which replay it is and I am thinking that it might be this that is causing the problem.

Please could you help advise me?

Thanks you

Malcolm,

I had same problem with the guy upstairs. My clk 320(02) fan is not working. When I stuck on the traffic. the display shows temprature up to 110 degree. then I parked the car off the road. Checked fan .Found that was not run when the temprature reach 110 degree.

Is that normal?

many thanks
