I find that the radiator fan does not cut in at the expected temp, previously I noticed the fuse had gone and Have changed it but now the temp just keeps rising and rising. The fan does cut it some time but not evry time the temp reaches cut it temp

something similar happened on my 230CE (W123), it started overheating quite badly and had some smoke come out of the engine bay once or twice after driving at 70mph+ and then slowing down quite quickly eg coming off the motorway ramp.

the problem was the thermostat, rather than replace it my mechanic just stuck the fan on permanently and never had a problem since, not an ideal solution but my CE is almost knackered now so cheap fix.

Sorry about late response but I think it was the febi brand fan switch which I have now replaced with a merc supplied one despite the febi being less than 2 month old.
