Q1. should the Coolant be up to the thin white plastic bar (see red arrow in photo) or as some utube vid showed, up to where the container changes from white to black (see blue arrow). The photo in the manual is unclear. Looks like there should be a tab??

Main issue in brief:
The heater stopped pumping out Hot Air. On a trip at the time - forgot manual, so put in about 200ml pure water (rough guessing).
Realising I had changed the coolant concentration, I thought if I syphoned off the excess coolant (assuming the white bar is correct) then that showed I actually added 140ml of pure water.
My logic was I should therefore Put in 140ml coolant to make the top up concentration = 50/50.
Hmmm maybe not enough room to do that, and run engine to mix it up (concerned about too much pressure etc.)
So I drained off 585Ml. Deducting the excess of 140Ml = 445Ml needed To be replaced.
I thus deducted 140Ml from 445 Ml (to be replaced by pure Coolant) = 305Ml of 50/50 concentration needed. And replaced 445 Ml of mixed coolant- water to the level marker (this consisted of 292 Ml (i.e. 140 Ml + 152Ml ) of Coolant and 152 Ml Dist. water.

Q 2 In making up the 50/50 concentration with genuine MB Coolant. I noticed a strong colour difference. See Photo.
-Did this indicate the wrong Coolant concentration in the system ?
-Or does Coolant colour weaken over time?
- Have MB changed the colour of Coolant since 2009?
-Or did someone use non MB Coolant? Note always serviced at MB, except On AC pipe replaced at an Independant By previous owner.

can my dealer check the concentration with something like an Hydrometer?? .. or does it even matter? F2C57B5A-5874-44F3-B97F-C7B7B16D642D.jpeg

Yes, you can test the anti-freeze with a hydrometer, assuming you know what type of anti-freeze you have installed, so many different types these days. The proper M-B antifreeze for my car (W203 diesel) is blue in colour, but colours mean nothing if non-genuine antifreeze has been used in the past.

I have to say they all look very pale in colour to me.

I believe anti-freeze can also be tested using a refractometer. You can buy one for £17 from Amazon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Antifreeze...hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583863982426891&psc=1

When in doubt, I drain and flush and refill with genuine M-B coolant in 50/50 mixture.

You might find M-B anti-freeze cheaper from M-B truck place.

Thanks Andy,
I too thought the existing stuff in the 2 tubes on the left looked pretty pale.
the 50/50 tube on the right is definitely new Mercedes Coolant- Anti Corrosion- Antifreeze from a Mercedes Main dealer and measured with a medical syringe so should be exact. But Tastes pretty dam potent on your finger , probably seriously poisonous
