How much will it cost to get my car fault history checked on star? Also, the MB engeneer who came via moilbo said he couldnt erase....he couldnt understand why all the previous faults were still on..... anyway, I have been told to get themn cleared then when something happends again (car lose power) I will be able to get it pin pointed.

thanks

well respected Indie here in Stockport charges £35 plus vat, only used him once on a Saturday morning and was shocked that I was one of four MB owners in for the service. MB must see it as a real money maker.

Thanks everyone.......... I will add my details to signature after this... After having the Mercedes Mobilo man come on (didn’t think he was all that) he suggested the turbo unit. One of the reasons I think he was getting confused was all the faults that had ever happened had been left on plus it was nearly 5 and he wanted to get home. (ha, he said that one entry stored was because all my 4 sensors have been knocked out!!! ... ) I found out this was just where the wheels have 'spun' and its been recorded! lol and the turbo unit which I would have had to replace would have cost in the region of £1500 - luckily for me I got a techi to check and he put it down the mass air meter/ flow or something! mmmmmm !

The air mass will not fix the car as with this fault code it means the variable vains in the turbo stick thus causing the turbo to overboost and put the car in limp home mode, recycle of ignition resets ecu and will b ok for a while, mercedes temp fix is to lube the arm from the wastegate to the turbo. trust me air mass will not fix

Might I be so bold as to suggest that the cost of a Star check should be directly related to the knowledge and experience of the man holding the Star in his hand. The point I am trying to make is that both the Star and the cars it gets plugged into are complex and it will not fix the car on its own. To achieve value for money it may be more eficient to pay more to someone who comes highly recommended.

Hi,
I quoted 20 minutes labour charge for star diagnosis by my local MB dealer.
