Hello all,
7th MOT in my ownership and my 2003 sl350 has had its' first failure notice for a leaking front shock, ( non hydraulic susp. model like most 350s). Bilstein ( who probably make them for mercedes) can be bought for almost half of what merc. grangemouth are quoting me.
The site I have found the bilsteins on quote the following merc OE numbers a suitable for an R230.467 sl350 3.7:
MERCEDES-BENZ — OE 2303230400
MERCEDES-BENZ — OE 2303230800
MERCEDES-BENZ — OE A2303230400
MERCEDES-BENZ — OE A2303230800

Do these match what comes up on the EPC??
Many thanks if you can assist!

Martin

PS My MOT garage cannot do the job as they have not got the correct spring compressor for the r230 ( have one for R107 and r129s), does anyone know whether the job can be done using the jack under the lower suspension arm method??

thanks for your reply. My garage can do most things but apparently the r230 has a very short spring requiring a special compressor they don't have. My question re the jack method was so perhaps I could talk my garage into having a go without the special tool. On the other hand no doubt health and safety rules will come into it where it is a professional doing the work ! :)

You could always take a nice road trip to MBS in Southampton to have Cole do it. They have the tools for pretty much everything.

Yes, that of course is a consideration. Do you know if they do a while you wait type service? I imagine a shock change is not too lengthy a procedure. Convenience is why I've tended to use my local 2-4man operation as I can cycle/walk there and back (1 mile exactly) :)

Best thing is to ring Cole and ask. He did my r230 service/crank pulley change while I waited (and wandered around under the car).
