today, the key went to the position 2 as normal, but the engine didnt turn over, no click or anything. tried again and all was well. Its first and only time its happened but whats the most likly cause going to be.. Star doesnt show any faults

just to add, its not a power / starter motor issue.

Could the key batteries need changing, I am unsure if they are part of the starter circuit?

On this car if it has the all plastic EIS key, then when in the ignition it is powered from the coil on the switch.

One thing that you can do is to clean the red end of the key and the lens at the bottom of the ign switch

oh, all that crud on the end stops it eh :)

thanks malcome I will double check the lens on both ends is clean

Hi,
I have noticed if I get in my AMG put the key in the slot and immediatly turn it after you hear the steering lock come off to the the crank position it does,nt turn over, but just by waiting a brief second after the steering lock comes off it will crank every time.
I have always put it down to the ECU's having to wake up so to speak.
