just put my 89' TE through the ticket and got a couple of advisorys, otherwise it was perfect! through loads of swearing, coughing and puffing on a rolly, he did tell me but i didnt really get it i just wanted to take my fresh m.o.t and get home!

1st comment..."has room in o/s steering rack end"

2nd comment..."n/s rear link bar has room in"

could anyone translate to laymans terms what i need to buy,how much it will be,will it be exBENZive, and are they easy jobs?

couldn't say about the cost

but they don't sound cataclysmic. You might be able to get the steering play adjusted out. The rear link bar might just want a new bush or something. I think I'll leave this to the 124 cognoscenti.
Good luck

When they advise you on an mot,it means it is not bad enough to warrent a failure.......it means to keep an eye on it in case it gets worce....

steering rack???

not on a W124 it's a worm and pinion box - ask them to clarify

rear links -m well there's several of them, the top one is most prone to failure and the part costs less than £20 if you replace them yourself - not a difficult job.

test the links by clamping them woth a mole wrench and twisting them to see if there is any lateral movement - if there is then they need replacing. as far as I know they are not allowed to do this at an MoT and testing these links without removing the wheels (which they can't) would prove tricky.

Go back to the garage and ask for a reasonable explanation and point out that a W124 doesn't actually have a steering rack :)

hi marshie.
i think the tester prob means track rod ends. a reasonably common mot fail point. rear arms are at the stealer called pulling struts.

cheers. ted
