Hi

I have a cracked windscreen that was not caused by an object hitting the screen, in the evening after the sun had gone down I hand washed and dried the car off I also cleaned the front screen on the inside and at this time there was no sign of any crack and put the car in the garage, When I got into the car the next morning there was a 9 inch crack starting from the very bottom of the screen on the driver’s side and after driving the car this crack went another 15 inches where it has remained static over the last few days.

The point I would like to ask is has any other GLC owners had a similar experience, I know this was not caused by being hit with anything and the Service Manager and the Warranty Manager at my local Mercedes Garage have both had a look and neither could see or find any evidence of being hit or damage that could have caused this crack. So before I go through my insurance to get it fixed I would welcome any info from anyone that has had the same or could shed any light on the possible cause.

Regards

Phil

I would suspect that there will be a mark of some kind that the crack emanated from. There could have been a flaw in the screen, that the temp change caused to crack although I don't remember reading a post on here of a windscreen cracking without some form of impact. (We've had quite a few exploding sunroof's though)

The temp cycle must have occured a few times since you had the crack. SonI doubt it was that.
Could be a poorly fitted screen and you went over a bump that ignited the crack.
Regardless it will be an insurance job. Demand a MB screen and make sure the rain sensors are calibrated.
Best asked to have it done at the dealers as they will have the gear (star) vis a vis someone like autoglass

....
It could have. I bought a Senator years ago that had a small crack at the bottom of the screen ... I'd not noticed it to start with cos it was in the black bit right at the bottom. A good few years later, unusually, I had the car reversed onto my drive all afternoon while I did job on it. It was a nice day & the sun was shining on the screen all afternoon ... the small inch long crack that had been there years was now a crack 2/3rds of the screen. Just what I needed before a fortnight's trip to French France!

You put duck tape on it I guess.
I loved Vauxall Senators. Had a pic of one on my wall as a kid.

Sorry to hear about this, Phil. I have had my GLC for nearly three years and have had no problem with the screen nor can I recall ever reading about such a problem with the GLC.
