C250 premium estate 2015
Hi all,
Found a nasty crack in my front windscreen this morning of my 2015, c250 estate. I’m debating the choice from going through my insurance or taking it to a main dealer.
Common sense tells me to go through my insurance but I’m only asking due to the monster stories I’ve heard of replacing the product.
Thank you.

I believe the dealer often sub contract work to Autoglass etc anyway but you will still need a dealer to recalibrate any driving aids, camera etc in the screen. If you go to Autoglass, they will then need a dealer to finish it off. Swings and roundabout really.

The dealer windscreen will have the Mercedes signature in it but one from Autoglass is likely to have come from the same supplier anyway as production is so specialised and expensive to tool.

Insurance, dealers don’t fit glass and the companies that do specialise in it.
All the sensors should work afterwards, make sure you check them before signing the job sheet

My insurers use Nationwide, with an excess of £100, so I’ve emailed them direct to query costs and would there be a necessity to take it to a main dealer.
Thank you both, very much appreciated.

You could ask if they could do it at the main dealers. Then they could interface directly with MB if sensors need calibration

And I think we have read cases on here where the owner has managed to persuade the Insurance Co and/or Autoglass to use a branded a Mercedes windscreen. I would try that line with Nationwide and see where it gets you! If you don’t ask....

I had a new screen fitted in my E55 by Nationwide and I know it is down to the experience of the fitter on the day, but the guy who did mine was excellent. No rain or light sensors needed recalibrating afterwards either.

Me -2019 GLC 350 coupe AMG line. Mrs- ford kuga 65 plate awd powershift .
When autoglass did mine ,they used a jig stuck on the passenger side window , it was calibrated with lasers to make sure the windscreen position went back in pinpoint. No duck tape was used :)

£80 excess, to pay . A dealer will want £600 , so that's a no brainer tbh.
