Hi everyone

Just thought I'd pass on my bad news :(

I was driving home last friday from work, 12.30pm, went round a right had bend car skidded into the path of on coming traffic.
Took big hit in nearside front wing, front & rear doors and damaged B pillar.
Just had 'phone call from repairer car "write off".

I gutted only had car 9 months.
Dont know what to do now. Should I try and get car repaired by independant garage or just let it go???

I loved my mercedes.

So everyone take out there in the snow and ice.

Steve :(

Steve,
Sorry to hear the bad news. Been there and its gutting.
I'd quickly trawl round and see what you are likely to pick up for the expected payout. At the same time, is it an economic or mechanical write off? I've had a number of economic write offs repaired over the years. I usualy found myself with change from the payout, after buying the car back and having it fixed. You can end up with a mint car, with a history you know and change in your pocket, so certainly worth looking into.
good luck.

If you do decide to go for the payout DO NOT take the first offer fromthe insurance Co they usually make 3 offers take the third.

I was involved in the used car trade for a long time and i can tell you the 'Write off' will be just down to book value or as JB put it, an economical write off. As the other gentleman says, take the third offer and spend the money having an independant rebuild the car for you, it can be done by good fella's. As JB also said, you may even end up with change for a long shakedown run afterwards but you can get your car back to top notch, even if it does look awful right now. I am very sorry it happened to you and if there is anything i can do to help you out, it's just an email away.

Bad luck but not necessarily the end.

Why not take some though over this, the B pillar is a criticle part of the shell, do you have a small kink in the roof above the pillar, you could end up with wind noise and never solve it. If the insurance offer is not very good, just ask them to find you a car with the same spec and condition. You have a bit of time think this through.

Thanks

Insurers say that the car is an economical write off.

I've spoken to an independant garage, Stuttgart Garage, and they say they may be able to repair it. Wait and see what insurers are willing to pay towards repair and they will see if they can repair it for that but I may just buy back the car and have it repaired anyway.

The roof is not kinked above B pillar it is just pushed in against the side of the backrest of the passenger seat. (If you see what I mean).

Thanks for all your support and guidance and I'm going to get my mercedes back.

I am pleased to hear that there are no kinks in roof and that you are going to do it. So it should not be to much of a job to set up the B pillar and doors.
What colour is the car ? when some one reversed into my Volvo drivers door, apart from a new door the rear door and front wing had to be painted as they are inline and any miss match wold show.

One tip, Do not be tempted with patern copy parts, you will spend so much time trying to fit, its not worth it and will always show. I think the cost of a new drivers door was mine was £165.

Do all the donkey work yourself, taking off door panels, windows handles etc and you will save a lot of money.

Glad you are not hurt, but fascinated how you managed to slide into on coming traffic going around a right hand bend.

Would have thought you ended up in the ditch ?
