Hi,

I am a first time owner of a Mercedes C220 Diesel Sport 2015. I have had the car since end of June and have 5k miles on the clock. After only a few weeks in I began to notice a slight creaking noise coming from the driver's door top edge. The noise was as if the glass of the window was rubbing against the rubber seal of the door. It was only noticeable on very rough or uneven road surfaces. Since a few weeks ago the noise has got more consistent and has also started on the passenger side front door and is much more prevalent. To add to this a crack appeared in the bottom right corner of the windscreen a few weeks ago too. This crack has now spread the half way across the bottom of the windscreen. There appears to be absolutely no evidence of a stone chip nor do I recall anything striking the screen whilst driving. I am the only driver of the vehicle.
Could the creaking noise be linked to the cracking windscreen? Why is there creaking of the windows/seals? Incidentally the noise disappears when you lower the window by a centimetre or so, i.e. when it is not touching the seal.
Is this normal, I would expect better quality and workmanship from Mercedes.

You could try some silicone spray, sprayed onto a rag and rubbed over the seal to lubricate against the rubbing.

There doesn't have to be a chip visible for a crack to appear, a small stone flung up by a truck could have weakened it and the next pot hole would have put enough strain.

Believe it or not, the screen is an integral part of the strength of a monocoque body. The glue allows a tiny bit of flex, which is why a small crack will turn into a large crack pretty quickly as the screen strength is lost and the bodywork flexes.

Thank you Pookis Dad.

I will try the the silicon based spray. My concern though is getting a film of silicon on my windows.

Kind regards,

Ehsan

If you spray a tiny amount onto the rag and use one finger to rub it onto the rubber you should be fine.

I use silicone spray on my window runners to lubricate them and prevent the motors straining to push/pull the glass.

Plenty products to remove it if you apply too much ;)

Good morning. I have the same car and the same age with the exact same issue. Did you manage to resolve the really irritating noise?

C220 Diesel Sport 2015 .. 5k miles on the clock .. creaking noise coming from the driver's door top edge .. a crack appeared in the bottom right corner of the windscreen .. crack has now spread the half way across the bottom of the windscreen ..

Sounds serious. Body flex? Misaligned screen? Missing adhesive on the screen?

I doubt rubbing silicone grease on it will work. Much in the same way rubbing a brass lamp won't produce a genie.

Take it back to the supplying dealer.

C220d AMG Line 2,500mls - I have exactly the same problem, a very annoying creaking/cracking coming from drivers door. Car has been with the dealer 3 times where they have tried a "temporary fix" as instructed by Mercedes. The temp repair has reduced the noise slightly but it is still obvious. The dealer says Mercedes are looking into a permanent fix but they have no news on timescale; ie a recall for door seals.
Very disappointing and not what i expect from Mercedes.

Further to my previous post, as Mercedes could not provide a permanent fix for the noisy door, I complained to the dealership and they have replaced my car with a new one!
The dealership have acknowledged that there is a known fault with the door seals but no solution has been found at present.

I wonder what they will do with your old one ?

Is there a compound full of creaky cars somewhere ?

I wonder... the dealership did acknowledge that one of their own cars has the same problem....
