whilst driving through our company car part i went down a slope and heard a scraping noise under car. had a good look and everything looked ok.
however since then the steering is creaking, its ok on motorway just round town its noticeable. the car is driving and handling well but the noise was not there prior to using the ramp.
any ideas on what it could be before i take it into the garage as its my first merc so i dont know as much as i do about my other cars.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

I'd guess worn front balljoints. Get the car into an independent Mercedes specialist asap and don't drive it otherwise

Balljoints are only £13 each but when they fail they'll ruin your whole weekend

Thanks for that,, there is nothing to tie the two things together,, the exhaust may have scraped but too hard to say.

On you car its possible that one or both of the bottom swivels are playing up,and could be due to all of the rain etc and a coincidence, Do have them checked out, there have been a few post the same as yours in the last few weeks.

Do you have a good indie near you

Thanks for the advice and we found out that there were a couple of problems, 1 was a bracket from exhaust had broken and this was a quick fix and the second problem was the steering balljoint has burst so we now know the route of the problem.
Thankfully they said it is ok to drive and going in on thursday to be operated on

There is a useful object lesson here.

You have a problem, you spot a fault that could be causing it, you repair the fault. (in this case, say the exhaust bracket).

There is unfortunately no rule that says there is only one problem. The risk of two things happening concurrently is low, but not negligible. The fact that the creaking would persists does not mean that the engineer has been "conning" you, or that he has been negligent.

The work done was not necessarily bad, but it was incomplete. When they say they have fixed it, don't switch off, and don't be shy to take it back.

I think that was because the OP thought that the 2 faults were related, it threw me at first

Hi Alex, srry for the delay in getting back, with 137 post yesterday things are getting too busy.

On that post that you refer to, it made me think that there were 2 faults in the OP's post, I thought that your comment were good, there is nought like folk
