Referred to this problem amongst others in the following post but spotted something significant today!

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/showthread.php?t=113313

CLK320 has not been shifting down and I can do a mile @5000 revs and barely touching throttle, does it everyday straight onto bypass after work.

Today whilst in mid fault doing about 60 at between 4 and 5 thousand revs I clicked up the cruise control and hey presto in the blink of an eye she sweetly blipped down through 2 gears almost consecutively to a normal drive

Hope this means my transmission is sound and it's something small, anyone any ideas? thanks in advance if so.

Paul

Possible throtle position sensor, as engaging the CC bypasses this in essence.

Happyness!

Thanks Television also :)

THANKS GUYS BUT LISTEN TO THIS!!! WE GOT IT!

I almost knew this was air intake related, engine sounded ****** awful. Anyway got home today and luckily didn't have the radio on when I switched off, I turned the key back to 2 and heard a very faint buzzing noise, went under the bonnet and after a failed idea of pulling every fuse on the entire car and not isolating it I went for the big pozidriverscope method lol, it is Mercedes Part No 1121410025! Throttle body/air actuator slide/whatever :)Buzzing squeaking and the occasional grind, not nice, anyway what a relief, was beginning to think cylinder head or something major.

The actual part that is buzzing is about a thick as a packet of cigs and attached to the side of the throttle body, not yet looked if it's an all in one job with the throttle body or a separate part, just wanted to say YIPPEE on here first!!!! :p can't understand lack of Engine management light?

Could you guys give me some ideas on whether anything is serviceable?, what you'd do if you were me and is it all DIYable etc etc? Got new plugs and leads and fuel filter sat in the boot ready to go on, so this weekend she's getting it! Guess I could give the EGR a good clean and maybe a few other bits at the same time, wow, happiness
