I have an SLK 230 1997. It has done about 78,000 miles. My problem is that the cruise control cut off intermittently for no apparent reason. It switches on OK but after about 10 to 15 miles it cut off. It doesn't seem matter the speed set, weather conditions or road surface condition. It does switch on again but the same thing happens after a short time. Anyone got any ideas?

That at a guess would be a rear rpm sensor, (wheel speed sensor)

A test to get the fault codes would confirm.

This may be due to uneven tyre wear or pressures.

The computer uses the speed sensors to read the speed but if it gets different answers from each wheel it can get confused. It then cuts off the cruise control.

Check your pressures and for uneven wear between tyres.

Have you changed/replaced tyres lately?

Could it be as simple as some dirt in the brake pedal switch making the car believe you are brakeing thus switching off the CC.

Adjusted tyre pressures as advised, tested and it now seems to be OK. Thanks for all posted comments, much appreciated.

Hi Willi12329,

I beleive I may have the same the same problem. It is OK and works well around 50-55mph but over that and if gonig even slightly downhill it cuts out. Is the tyre pressure fix still working? If so I'll try that, mind you I shoul ddo that anyway but only just got it on Wedensday.

Thanks

James

Did you fix your problem with the cruise? Because I still have same problem with you.
I just checked the pressure of the tires, and I have front 1.9 and back 2.1 as it says in the car info.
But still my Cruise works between 40-60km/h :(
What do I do next step??
Please replay. I just bought the car before 3 days ago, and already many problems :( :(
