Very scary momemnt yesterday - basically throttle jammed wide open after disengaging the cruise control (on at 30mph through empty town) - I accelerated uptio about fifty but the car just carried on - the brakes did not initially disengage the cruise control and it felt like tapping the cruise control stalk did nothing either.

I did bring the car safely to a stop in a lay by.

When I put the car into P and took my foot off the brakes, the car revved as if the throttle was pressed to the floorboards - so I switched off.

Tried five mins later and the car started but revved uncontrollably.

We were brought home on the back of a lorry and the local dealership are taking it away on Tuesday.

Any clues anyone? Has this type of incident been reported by others?

Peugeots and citroens were famous for doing this ..basically oil leaked from the turbo into the intercooler..the build of of oil was then sucked into the compression chamber with the air and the hot engine would then run at full revs...tho lots of smoke from the burning oil was a clue..I dont think yours is as drastic... unless lots of smoke

Thanks for the replies - yes, the throttle felt normal and I did have a look under the bonnet to see if the linkage was moving. It was.

The car has now been taken into the dealership and we await the outcome....
