For some reason my 190 is blowing hot air out of the passenger side
vents perminently - the drivers side works as advertised.

Any ideas? And is it a big job!

hi

Sounds like a dueo valve fault, if it has one. This controls the hot water flow into the heater matrix for left and right sides. its mounted just infront of the brake master cylinder and has two heater hoes going in and two coming out

Agree above.
But it could also be a sticky pot wind your temp selecs both sides a few times - it may respond - mine does!

Cheers I'll give the dails a workout tomorrow when I get the papers! Hopefully that'll do it (cheap fix is the best fix!).

Well the heater dial workout did'nt work I could'nt see anything that obviously resembled the valve behind or in front of the brake cylinder.

I'll need more decription please (the Haynes manual is without the worst yet for photos and "big picture" descriptions).

Sorry to hear the twiddlin did not work.

The duo valve is as piestore described. But if this helps ----------- you know that bay that runs across the front of the car just below the windscreen, with the rubber seal on - it sort of divides the space between where the engine sits and where the battery/ fusebox/ master cylinder etc are located - well look there as piestore describes. the duo valves have the hoses about 1 inch dia if memeory serves me right and the duo valves themselves are grey metal coloured with electrical connectors on top (cylindrical and standing vertical - about 1 inch diameter and 2 inch tall ----from memory again) - I will look tomorrow and amend if grossly out)

Mine is mounted on a wee platform right in front of the braking system hydraulic reservoir. It has ONE hose at the input side and TWO output hoses (one from each valve). The valves are cylindrical 1.5 inches in diameter by 1.5 inches tall mounted vertically so you can see the circular ends uppermost, grey metal coloured, the electrical connectors are not mounted on top of the valves but on the wee platform in front of them.

Any good?

Wish I had a digital camera!!

Forget the pic, its does'nt show what you describe. In fact having just been out with a torch (!) I cannot find anything resembling what you describe.
I'm taking the car in for some work on the TC tensioner, getting the lumpy tickover sorted, plus rear brakes etc so I'll just add this to this list of things to do!

Thanks again for your time....

Still have'nt dealt with this issue but I have taken a better photo I think,
see it here - http://community.webshots.com/album/78677421QMreex

Is that the valve? I removed the red pipe and operated the "dog-leg"
when I pushed it up it came straight back down, when the pipe is connected it would'nt move at all. Is this the sign of the valve no longer working?

role reversal - air con dual temp controls

:? My 96' E320 has the reverse problem. My dual climate control. the driver side temp is considerably warmer than that of passenger side. passenger side works as it should. drivers side is 20+ degrees warmer. what gives? Curiously it started happening just after I had my radiator replaced. Shop mechanic says no connection between the two.

BUMP! :)

I found the cause of the problem, the dial on the passenger side was detached from the heater valve control, when I had the dash apart today
I spotted a vertical bar which was hanging loose it should have been connected to the bar which projects behind the heater dial, it was'nt possible to see the join point so I grabbed the bar with pliers through the centre vent apature and turned the dial back and forth until something clicked and, hey-presto! The dial and the bar were re-united and the valve could be worked. I ran the engine for a minute and sure enough I now have adjustable heat on the pasenger side.

Exellent.
