hi ,i have a w220 s320 petrol 99 v reg,
since i ran out of fuel(yes ,ran out of fuel...embarrassed to say)i have been having a major problem, cutting out ,which cost me £480.00 .the garage said it was 2 injectors and mass air flow meter,.....it wasn't.it happened again the next day.the problem seems to happen at low revs, can be any distance from start, from 10 miles to half a mile.before i had the work done ,the car used to stop and take about 10-20 mins to start again, now its about 2-10 attempts at turning the engine over.Ive had it back to the garage several occasions they put it through the diagnostic machine and it comes up with no faults. please can anyone help

just a rough guess but air in the fuel lines, can you see a stream of air bubbles running through the fuel lines with the engine running or with the engine off can you see a bubble develope in the line and increase or move.

Sounds like the crankshaft position sensor to me, very common indeed.

Yes this is one piece that will not leave a fault code
