Good day folks

This is my first post and hope someone can help?

I have 2014 E-class Coupe E 250 CDI AMG Sport

I have been to a local 'detailer' with a view to getting tints to my rear windows. The detailer has advised that I should get a replacement DAB aerial as when he peels it off it wont re-stick.

I visited the local Mercedes dealer parts counter however they advised that the DAB aerial only comes with the rear window. On looking it really looks like the DAB aerial is a extra part that sticks on - see in the attached photo where the DAB aerial has been fitted slightly off level?

Any thoughts?

Cheers

Just get an aftermarket one and stick that on.

A half wave antenna on DAB is about 2 feet long, so I would say its on the rear screen.
The shark fin antenna on the roof is normally for sat nav. Those frequencies are 1575Mhz or 1227Mhz, making the antenna considerably shorter, so can fit in the shark fin.

Anything can be stuck with the correct prep and adhesive.
Your detailer is clueless.
I hate this not possible approach. It was stuck before it can be stuck again.

Are you sure that the antenna has failed? Normally its the antenna amp that fails.

It’s not currently failed… the person putting a tint on the rear window doesn’t believe they can get it to stick back on after they remove it.

I can't belive that 5 pence ineffectual sticker of an antenna was OEM leaving the factory - maybe it was a UK mkt mod for the fact Germany have no idea how any form of antenna is supposed to function... in 2016 they did 3 software updates trying to make DAB+ tuners function - the last software update is needed but it wasn't the only fix - there were "hardware fixes for the antenna" put on a few awkward customers car's. Of course they still didn't work ... see start of this paragraph.

on a BMW there are multiple boxes of tricks that link to what appears to be a fairly conventional heated rear window... where each box has boosters and filters to amplifier the info we want and cut back noise so it can do its specific job... Mercs also try this method. But its never worked and if there is anything in there, the quality of chocolate circuitry they use must be factory rejects that never made if for lidl's budget range

If its missing its software update to allow DAB and DAB+ to operate concurrently, then you have no hope till that's applied to the vehicle by a main dealer. Applicable for most models with DAB+ capable tuner from 2013 to start 2017 and I predict less than 10% of cars ever had this applied.

if you live in hilly remote areas and or in London where we have 27 trillion DAB and later DAB+ stations all broadcast at 1/5 of the strength of a dying mouse's fart, you must accept signal interruption.

an option that will be less bad than letting Mercedes touch your car - molest the headlining and ruin the window / looks of the car trying to find the cable that won't reach and doesn't work as you are still using the stupid antenna amp merc don't know how to make - or - it might be easier to fit a far better antenna unseen tucked behind the plastic rear bumper, but they need to be active ones, where its externally powered to suit the needs of merc tuners - Most don't send a 5 to 12v baby current from the tuner up the coax to wake up a integrated antenna amp, if you can't it will be 100% non functioning... https://connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/CT27UV82
