New to the forum, but have learnt a lot already - thanks!

My E200 was making a funny humming sound. The next day, my wife was driving and it stopped and needed to be towed to the garage. Just found out that a radiator leak has contaminated the gearbox and garage is saying I need to replace the gearbox .. this is an outlay I cannot afford.

I am trying to get MB to pay (or contribute) to the repair ... but thi sis falling on deaf ears.

I live in Dublin, but purchased the car in the UK. MB Irl and MB UK are bouncing me back-and-forth. MB Germany are telling me 'tough luck' as the car is older than 5 years even tho' it only has 50k mls.

Why the hell didn't MB inform us all that these rads needed to be replaced? The only communication I got from MB was about new models being launched!

Any advice?

Hello and welcome, though with bad news.

The car will need a torque converter and rad, the box will be OK. You should get this done for around £1300 from a good indie, not good but the only answer that I know of.

I have seen some 60 odd post now on this fault, and I think that MB should have come clean and said that the rad can fail and given the owners a chance of stopping it from happening by simply replacing the rad
