So in addition to all the other jobs I've had to do on my car since buying it from a crappy trader, I've just discovered today that the brand new spare wheel they supplied won't actually fit over the hub!

*fumes*

Any idea what a steely will cost for this, or would I be better off getting a crappy 2nd hand old alloy since its only a spare?

I guess that yours did not come with the steel spare wheel then. Before you go out and buy the steel spare wheel do you have the shorter wheel bolts in your tool kit? if not try and find an alloy wheel as per above posting.

Yeah I have the short bolts, the problem is that on the hub there is a small lip around the centre - the steely I have doesn't quite fit over that lip, so the bolts don't reach the threads. The hole through the centre of the steely is obviously too small.

New steely can't cost much can it? I have the tyre.

Scrappy will probably be the best deal, can't think there is much call for them really. Once you have one, you tend to keep it with the car;)

Don't forget that you can use any MB wheel from roughly 1990, it is only a spare as you say.

Well I went to Greenvale today, they packed me off to a Merc-only breaker in Delph (near Oldham Manchester). Got myself an old spare and tyre for £25 + VAT. ****** good service that.

The one I have is from a VW! I've given it to a mate whos helped me out (like the ATF change).
