Drop the undertray and push the clock assembly out. Then at the back you will see a white ceramic square like object. This is the potentiometer. Sometimes the soldering comes apart, or the resistance wire breaks. Don't try and repair. Replace. They are about £12-14 plus vat. Remove the screws which hold it prise it off. It will be a little stiff. Then fit and reverse operation.
