Hi Everyone
Hopefully someone can help..I have had a dash cam fitted front and rear and since it’s been fitted I have really poor radio reception and no DAB signal at all..
The fitting was done really well, but the connection for power etc was made in the fuse box in the boot..am I right in thinking that is where the aerial amplifier is located ..? It’s just I think the wires to the dash cam will now need shielding ?? OR do you think something may have come loose ..
The fitters are looking at it next week again , I just thought if I have some information it might help to resolve the issue
Cheers all
Mark

did they connect up the antenna wires to the headunit correctly when they put it back together ?
did they steal the antenna amp power to do the camera ?

can't be much different to one of those

You need to install some ferrite cores on the power wire for the dash cam which reduces interference, happened to me when I installed my rear dash cam. They are cheap to buy. Also a common problem when installing a dash cam.

Dash cams are notorious for wide band RF noise which can badly affect DAB receivers.

Re-routing the power cable, getting a shielded power cable and ferrite cores on the cable are all good at reducing / eliminating the issue

Its even more interesting if you have 25 watts of VHF AM being transmitted from the car. Caused us real problems with the early police video cars.

I powered the dash cam of my Smart using a hard wire kit connected to the side of its SAM. I then realised that the factory sat-nav couldn't find any satellites. If I just use the fag lighter socket & usb adapter the sat-nav works

**Tip of the day**

Rear dash cams are not really an option on an S Class with rear window blind. The blind goes right up to the roof and there is little or no room to fit a camera behind it... I bought one of the F800 front and rear cameras and ended up putting it in the wifes mini and buying another Nextbase with the plug in rear camera...it all sits in the front and nothing goes to the back of the car

How effective is the rear camera(Nextbase)? I'm contemplating getting a couple for our cars.

surprisingly effective. Obviously they aren't as good as having a camera in the window, but the lens does pick up a lot from the front of the car. There is also an option to buy an interior viewing add on, so make sure you get the right one!!

I think from memory, the rear add on camera was about £20... plus you need a minimum of 128gb card as the rear camera adds to the data being recorded and it will over write twice as fast with two cameras

Just an update ..the fitters are not getting back to me which is very disappointing, but , hey ho ..
So with reference to the above reply ..where would I buy these ferrite cores and where do they go ..?
Many thanks

Amazon.

Installing them is trial and error I've found, but the power wire near the dashcam is probably your best bet.

my initial response was thinking you had a RFK fitted.

could you get an extension lead and connect the "fag lighter" socket away from the antenna module and see it it helps and or unplug and see if the DAB works ? then you know you need to shield the power supply

I have just unplugged the wire to the rear dash cam and all the DAB is back ..happy days ..
I’ll see where they have routed the wire to the rear and see if I can re route it differently and see if it makes a difference....if not ..I’ll just have a front dash cam ..
Thanks again for the replies ..
