I was wary of trying it , but I spoke to an autoelectrian who quoted about £60 to fit , but I had two that needed doing (one for each car) . I read up on it and the E class was easy , I stuck the camera behind the drivers mirror , popped off the plastic cover behind the mirror , routed the cable through that to the top of the screen . Along the top of the screen , all tucked away around the top of the a post , along the top of the drivers door rubber , along top of the b post , along the rear door top rubber , down to the parcel shelf . Drilled a small hole through the parcel shelf and down into the rear fuse box . Used a pre wired fuse into the fuse slot for rear window wiper (which I don't have) . Connected the other wire to a nearby bolt and That was it . Camera comes on when the ignition is on
Thanks for that.
From what I’ve read my camera will record if motion detected whilst parked, does this not mean a live fuse to allow that? A hit and escape from a car park etc. Do I understand this correctly? Wary of mucking around with my baby!

Some have a ‘super capacitor’ to provide around 30 secs of power but are triggered by the G sensor (a knock) rather than motion.

Halfords would just stick it to the screen and plug it into the cigarette lighter.
Do they hard wire at buyers request, I don't think so but if they do I wouldn't trust them to do it anyway.

My BiL has one of these he fitted on his W212 E350:

https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Hid...8dc6-40fa-8549-b458cc53149b&priceBeautifyAB=0

It works brilliantly. Very difficult to see it is fitted from both inside and outside as the cowling fits over the existing housing.

It has a lie detector function for when your local MB dealer puts the car through a commercial vehicle washer and scratches the antenna fin on the roof. Then denies they did it. Even stating there machine washer was dismantled years ago...

You simply hand your mobile phone to the Service manager, where the footage from the camera shows the car being driven into the commercial vehicle wash at the back of the dealers, then shows the brushes clonking the car, complete with sound.

It also records when the tyre fitters drop it with a wheel off.

Well worth it, if only for the embarrassment factor at your MB dealer :alien::alien:

They can be connected to run continuously , but you then need a battery cut off protector so the battery doesn't run too low , but that is not something I know much about , mine are just wired to ignition live .

I think that is why most garages disconnect them now. Saves you facing a potential privacy case too ;)

Fortunately the MB dealer didn't see the camera there in this case, a neat install. A counter to a privacy case would be wilful damage, fraud and loss of reputation. Wonders which is the bigger hit?? ;)

The one and only time Ive had cause to complain, the garages own cameras picked up the fitter hadn't put things on properly, on several vehicles over the term of his ex employment. No need for recourse to a case. My car picked up, problem resolved, recompense offered and accepted. Have since used them for several cars servicing, tyres, Mots over the past decade. They've been happy with my custom, I'm happy with their service. Unlike the MB dealer in my BiL case who have had their reputation trashed. They have a record for video capturing idiocy. Sure its been posted on here, the media and youtube, quite infamous; but evidently not improved :rolleyes:

A sign of the times and society we have created, sad really. :alien:

Assuming you have a right or permission to video someone on their premises ;)
Garages who care about their reputation should have cctv recording your vehicle during the whole time it is there and if they are unable to provide it as evidence should something go wrong, automatically become liable.

Had my Nextbase 512 hardwired by Halfords. The guy completed a very tidy install in less than an hour. All for £30 including the wiring harness. I would highly recommend them....for a change.

Are you guys going for expensive or cheap camera's, I've had 2 cheap ones and both have stopped working after a few hours. :(
One's gone back for a refund, the other will be shortly!
What can you recommend ;)

We used these people for ours, they also did the dashcam for my Fiat500, was very pleased and they were priced well too, although probably not as cheap as Halfords. However when I took my Fiat to Halfords they weren't even able to find the fuse bit under the bonnet which didn't make me feel very confident about them.

We had 2 Nextbase dashcams and both broke, I did do a whole thread about them on here somewhere. It has made me question the quality of them and I don't think we would buy that make again.

My Blackvue is almost 5 years old, never had a problem but yes they are pricey.
If you buy a cheap one, can you rely on it to have recorded correctly if you ever need the video?
With any dash cam it's best to format in the unit itself and do another format every few months otherwise the memory can become too fragmented.

Tried Halfords first but my wife had bought ours from Amazon so Halfords wouldn’t fit it, annoyingly.

I've written about this before, but I use the K1S, front and rear. Acceptable video and the front and rear cameras are barely discernible. The 'guts' of the system sits in the Glove Box and can be removed to attach to a Laptop/Desktop.

I purchased the system from a UK supplier but had no cause to seek any 'returns'.
