Dash light problem 2004 Sprinter 316cdi

Hi new to the site hope an expert can help . I have the odometer light staying on at all times ,Doors shut ok & buzzer goes off no light on dashboard door switch, key in or out of ignition switch odometer light stays on instead of off in 30 secs, Any ideas to solve this problem all ideas welcome. I have dropped the Steering column shroud and what looks like a transponder or proximity switch on the ignition lock could this be the problem ?
