C280 sport auto 1995 2.8
Hi
I am the proud owner of a 1995 C280 Sport auto, which I purchased recently. Its a great car to drive, being quiet and fairly quick. However there are a few problems with the dashboard wiring.
Firstly, the fuel gauge sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. The heater control lights flash on and off and the gear change "PRNDL"lights don't work.
Am I right that there were some issues with the writing with this model?
Has anyone any advice about how best to fix these faults?
I would appreciate any comments or advice.
Thanks in advance.

First the fuel gauge float in the tank is the most common fault, try some injection cleaner in the tank.

The heater bulb will be a dirty contact, the gear shift bulb will have blown.

Flashing back lights on the heater control panel (if headlights/side lights off) are usually a sign of a faulty panel on these - I believe some have fixed them, possibly dry solder joints?

Thanks for the replies. My apologies for the delay, have been up to my neck getting started with my new job, as a result the car has taken a back seat.
I have finally managed to tackle some of the faults with the help of a Haynes manual, but have hit a snag with the gear selector bulb.
Where is the bulb holder? I have removed the various bits of trim but could not identify the bulb holder, also, what type of bulb is it?
Hope you can help
Thanks in advance
John

Have a look for the wire going to the front of the selector housing, and pull the holder out downwards.

Thanks for the replies. Very helpful and now I can see which gear I'm in.
One of my previous replies mentioned the flashing heater switches flashing when headlights are off was something to do with the control board having dry connections.
Can someone tell me where this board it's is so that I can check it.
Many Thanks
John
