Just a thought about Dashcams , I've got one in each car which are both forward facing and discretely installed . Does anyone advertise the fact they have dashcams by using stickers ?
My thinking is that if the idea is to protect you in the event of an accident then a dashcam would do exactly that , but if you think that some accidents are engineered by unscrupulous individuals then a visible sticker would prevent them targeting you in the first place .
OR would using a sticker create more of an issue by advertising expensive tech is left in the car ?
Thoughts anyone ?

As you said - this is a double-edge sword ;) - I bought some stickers about two years ago, but never put them on ... and unlikely to now ...

I like the fact that, my front dashcam is hardly visible, and the next one would probably be integrated into rain sensor assembly to blend in entirely; but I also find that, because the rear dashcam is quite noticeable, it helps to keep tailgaters at bay ... somewhat.

If on a car is same as on coaches then you have to display a sign saying images are recorded otherwise you can’t use in a court case, something to do with data protection act.

I hope not to need it in a court case , just for an insurance claim to back up my story :D

That can't be the case with cars , because some new cars have it factory fitted without that warning .

I don't think you are quite right there. My understanding is that if a 'Corporate Body' or suchlike is using Recording Equipment then they must display a sign indicating the reasons for the recording which might include, "Prevention of Theft/Damage"/"Protection of Staff", etc.

Similarly, I don't believe the absence of such signage would make anything 'inadmissible' to a Court. Evidence is Evidence, and is admissible providing it is acquired correctly. We don't see Police Officers wearing cameras adorned with a sign making persons aware of such. Similarly, consider vehicles used for collecting 'Covert Intelligence', whether it be the Police, the DWP, HMRC, or the Security Services, or even Private Investigative operators. Would one expect them to display a 'notice'? Or perhaps they should, "We are out to get you.":)

Strangely, being Corporate/Public Body owned vehicles, they are not exempt from having to display 'No Smoking' stickers and contact details for the owning body. Not that the CPS would ever entertain such a prosecution as it would 'not be in the Public interest'.

Getting back to the original question. If a situation ever arose, I would not disclose that I had a dashcam. The mobile phone would go on to 'Record' and I would let them spout whatever they wanted to. Depart with details exchanged and then await the 'allegations' from their Insurers.

Only then would I make known the existence of the 'evidence'. By then, [assuming their fault/contribution] they will have no doubt dug themselves into such a 'hole' that their future Premiums will be heavily loaded to the extent that they may become uninsurable, or even may face Criminal charges for Fraud.;)

If people want to dig a hole for themselves, why distract them from doing such.

I must admit , the non disclosure of the dashcam and letting them solidify their position initially is very clever (and sneaky !)

I have dashcams in all 3 cars and in my truck.
In the event of any incidents i would leave the ignition on and therefore keep recording. As they record sound as well, hopefully would record the ensuing conversation as well.
Recently the wife was saved by the camera in her car. Recorded the accident and gave a true account. Completely at odds with the third party's statement to his insurer.

That is completely untrue. Unless you are constantly driving around private land that expressly forbids the use of a dash camera then the road is a public place and as such you can film what you like without the need to disclose it.

The police actively ask for dash camera footage these days when accidents have occurred through the likes of Tw@tter etc. However they advise not to upload it to social media as it may affect it's use as evidence.

To bring the cable from the roof lining down to the fuse box. How easy is it to remove the screen pillow trim with the air bag in. Wanting to fit one in the GLE hard wired. Have a nextbase camera in the works van that took 10 mins to hard wire in but thinking it may be trickier with the air bags. And you get a clear window sticker with the nextbase

Normally the window pillar trim will be held in by a screw (usually behind the ‘airbag’ logo) and trim clips.

Remove the logo with a trim tool, undo the torx screw, usually a T20, and the prise the trim off with a trim tool.

You could also run it between the door seal and the trim if you can’t work out how to remove it.

Cheers Carl. Didn’t know if the air bag needed isolating before I removed the trim.

I have never done so. The only time I’ve messed around with an airbag is on a steering wheel change and paddle shifter changes.

As long as you don’t sever any wires and ensure nothing is trapped when you refit the trim you won’t have any issues.

If you’re worried/unsure then either get someone to do it for you or fit between the door seal and the trim.
