David,
My front discs are approaching wear limits. You kindly advised that MB grind their own discs.I consider they would normally buy in from a specialist manufacturer such as Zimmermann.
Knowing the extremely fine limits to which these components are now ground, it would suggest to me that MB are not satisfied with the tolerances which others work to.
In the past you posted that your car was your pride & joy.Ignoring the fact that you represent German & Swedish would you have utter confidence in fitting Zimmermanns to your 2.6?
Perhaps you can enlarge on the subject?

Ernest.

David Halsey-C Class front discs

Hi Ernest,

In my humble opinion, there is nothing better than mb brake discs. I know David my disagee. But I have tried the non gen stuff with regards to brake discs. They just (in my opinion) arn't up to the job. Every one I have fitted has always come back with viabrations. Usually the front. I can only then come to the conclusion with regards to the front discs. That they are not up to the task, especially if driven "vigoursly". The MB stuff isn't that expensive. You give em enough grief they will give you at least 10% off.

Regards
Andy

PS, The brake pads should be ok, if you use the original quality. I again only use MB this is what my customers want off me and also it keeps any chance of brake squeal to a minimum.

David Halsey-C Class front discs

Hi Andy,
Thanks very much for that, most interesting, I had my suspicions. I have no wish to cause friction between forum members but I would like to hear what David has to say on the subject.

I have used OEM/pattern parts in the past on my 190E with success. USA forums suggest that it is widely practised over there, especially on suspension components with considerable success.

What about forum members here? Has anyone tried to economise on MB prices & got any views on the subject?
There are at least three well established companies in UK that specialise in MB spares & I know that significant numbers are being sold. Do you buy any?

Ernest

I suppose my reply is what you would expect, yes I do have zimmerman discs on my 2.6, no theres no problem.
On some of the larger models, s class and the such, I have experienced some problems, maybe 10%. Otherwise no worries, let me know what c class it is and I will let u know the price.

I've replaced all four discs on my 190E with Guttman jobs, which cost about the same as four digestive biscuits. Over the last 4k, the braking performance remains absolutely superb. I'll let you all know if this deteriorates, but at the price I paid, I'm well pleased.
