suddenly my audio/nav/phone panel is dead, no power, unable to open cd-shifter. Perhaps just missing power, cause of broken fuse?

Anyone know exactly where fuse is located?

The fuse for the stereo on the W210 is under the back seat - not that this means much on a W211. Open the fusebox under the bonnet and there should be a chart in the lid that will tell you which fuse in which fuse box you need to look at.

My S Series had the same problem.
Turned out there were 2 blown fuses located behind the light in the footwell at the back.

The fuse for the command/radio on a 211 i think from memory is situated in the boot(rear sam) this problem you have though sounds like the audio gateway is faulty so you need to get it looked at by your nearest dealer!!but removing the fuse should bring it back to life for a bit!!the fuse card in your 211 should be behind the headlight switch, to find it you have to remove the panel on the side! hope this is of some use!
