Hi folks,

Car has been sitting a while, and after changing my glow plugs yesterday, battery is dead. Tried "jump starting" with another car but starter hardly turned. Charged battery overnight but although starter turns normally, it won't start or sound as though it wants to start. During the glow plug re-fit, I managed to break one of the plastic pipes that go into the top of the fuel filter. I replaced this when I had the manifold off, but does the fuel system need to be "primed" in any way?

Have I missed something while changing the plugs or is there a set way to reset electrics after changing my battery?

You've probably got air in the fuel system. Jump it off another car and be prepared for it to take 15 minutes to get it lit

Success!!!!!

Thanks for the help, it started after about 2 minutes of trying and is running as smooth as it used to.

Once again the Tech Forums have been invaluable!

Just to give the reason why, you cant compress diesel, but you can compress air, , the only place that the air can come out is through the injectors so buy cranking non stop the pressure builds up enough for the air to escape.
