Mercedes SBC Saga
Hi Malcolm,
I agree entirely with what you say, I also thought if the road was greasy and I was,nt driving hard it probably would have locked the wheel, Mercedes have only said yes we THINK it is the SBC pump and a replacement will cost around £900 I think that was for the part only, I then said surely this should be covered by Mercedes and they said no you only get a 3 yr warranty on the SBC system, this bothered me so I asked my secretary to ring another dealer in Lancashire and ask them what their view on the situation would be, they took all the vehicle details and then said as there were no SBC type recalls on this particular chassis number it would,nt be covered by Mercedes, I contacted the supplying dealer who has said they will make sure it will be sorted out with no cost to me and they have liased with the extended warranty company, they got back to me last night and have decided they want to inspect the vehicle, what REALLY shocked me was that the Stealership rang me and also told me they were coming to inspect the car, and do I want to take it away and use it until they come, I was dumfounded and just told them to keep hold of it, I am amazed at this situation especially as you say it could have caused a serious accident.
do you have any tel numbers that I could ring with a view to getting Mercedes to make a contribution? or can only the dealership do that?.
Regards

This is interesting in that only a sticky / faulty modulating valve could do this, that is built into the pump.
The thinking behind SBC was that that the braking could be done via the fly by wire brake pedal giving signals to the SBC pump to apply the brakes. Now the rear caliper cannot apply the pressure to that wheel, the pressure only comes from the SBC pump, so this means that the SBC pump has failed in a dangerous way, driving on a wet road could have spun the car.
I would take this as far as you can, what is MB version of the pump failing
