i have a '91 230TE, with cat. the cat is rattling and the centre box is pretty much shot ... so i have bought a complete exhaust system from an '88 model. obviously this was a pre-cat car, so i want to ask - how do i fix onto the 'new' (old) exhaust downpipe a place for the O2 (lambda?) sensor? does anyone know the specs for the probe input screw/threadings? should i just cut the old one off and weld it to the (drilled) new one?

very grateful for any answers ... especially if they are really simple for a medium-level diyer to carry out

Hi
I have 230TE 1991 also. I have looked at the decatt idea for mine. You need to drill a hole and weld a nut on new exhaust . I believe it is not a metric thread as i tried the lambda in one so you may have to use the fitting from old exh and weld in place.
Good Luck
